Once you have booked your space, you will:

  1. Receive a confirmation email letting you know your place is secured. 
  2. 7 Days before the course or upon booking (if the course is less than 7 days away) you will receive further instructions regarding attending the course.
  3. You will also receive an email asking you to complete an initial assessment & delegate information form. You will complete this via a simple online form.
  4. Arrive at the course venue at least 30 minutes before the course. You will receive all the resources you need at the course venue.
  5. Remember to bring your ID (Passport or Driving license)
  6. Attend every day of the course and complete the exam at the end. (You must attend every day of the course to complete it.)
  7. You will receive your certificates via email around 14 days after the course.  Please take this into account before committing to employment start dates.
  8. You will also receive confirmation of your result via email around 1 day after the course.
  9. Please note: You must be able to speak, read & write in English.


Course Overview

The SMSTS course content covers the legislation that impacts safe working practices within the construction and civil engineering industries.  It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace and implementing the hierarchy of control measures whilst guiding managers in developing and maintaining appropriate health and safety culture within the workplace.

The main focus of the SMSTS course content will be a risk assessment and to learn how to work and manage following the regulations stipulated by the Health and Safety at Work Act. Topics covered during the five-day training include planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering.

Course Materials

All course materials are provided for the training course. This includes the CITB Construction Site Safety GE700 publication.


Training Assessment

All CITB SMSTS course candidates are required to reach or exceed a minimum level of achievement throughout the course, with assessment being determined by


Attendance:  In order to achieve the learning objectives, candidates must attend all 5 days in accordance with the course programme. 

 

Exercise/Case Study:  Candidates must successfully complete all individual and group exercises/case studies related to the 4 core modules.  Where necessary, the tutor will observe/review each candidate's performance to establish that the necessary skills have been developed as the course progresses.

 

Examination: The exam is made up of 18 multiple-choice questions and seven short-written questions. The minimum pass rate for the exam is 81%.

 

On successful completion of the SMSTS course and associated assessment, candidates will be awarded the CITB  Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.  This certificate will remain extant for five years, after which CITB SMSTS refresher course must be undertaken for individuals to maintain qualification for a further 5 years.
